Community Schools Collaboration coordinates resources and provides direct services at 20 community school sites in the Tukwila and Highline School Districts of South King County, WA. CSC serves more than 2,000 children in grades K-12 each year, of which 93% are racial or ethnic minorities, 40% are refugee or immigrant, and more than 70% are low-income.
CSC works across elementary, middle, and high schools to offer students a pipeline of support from kindergarten through twelfth grade. We provide:
Expanded Learning
- Homework assistance and tutoring, including Supplemental Education Services (SES)
- Help with English language learning and U.S. acculturation
- Support for transitions from elementary to middle school and middle to high school
- Older to younger student mentoring
- Youth leadership development and community service
- College readiness and preparation
- Arts and enrichment programming
Family Engagement
- Connections to social and employment services as needed
- Orientations to understand and improve communication with the schools
- Assistance to engage in their children’s learning, college and career planning
- Parent leadership development
- Bilingual/bicultural translation services
Health Services and Education
- On-site physicals, immunizations, dental and vision care
- Sports and recreation
- Health education on nutrition, fitness, and the prevention of high-risk behaviors
- Community partnerships to increase health access
